"Saccade", Paintings by Sarah Pearce
Sarah Pearce exhibit "Saccade" in the Bellevue Gallery runs from "February 4th - March 27th.
Join us for the opening Reception on the first Gallery Walk Night of 2011 on February 4th, 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
"Saccade: noun: a small rapid jerky movement of the eye especially as it jumps from one fixation point to another. The term saccade is used to describe the rapid movement that the eyes make when they move from point to point to establish space and to construct an understandable mental picture. The brain constantly moves back and forth between the gathering of flat information and its memory banks. Thus, we are able to grasp space, and discern potential threats or targets our surroundings."
Sarah says, "My paintings are about understanding nature. I am interested in the way nature is described by science, and equally interested by the way we describe nature in our imaginations. My starting point is the landscape and its residents, but I often work from my imagination. I try to discover something new about paint in every picture that I make.
